One of my favorite stories of my grandmother was that of her “house cleaning rituals” and how she used to throw the broom in the corner and then kick everyone out for 24 hours until the house was “ready.” Although I never knew her, she is the inspiration and co-creator as she has definitely been here in spirit as I blended this special scent. This product line coming out of Rita’s Spiritual Goods is one of my favorite and very near and dear to my heart.
My grandmother, my father’s mother, died before I was born. To me it is such a shame that I never got to know her as I only hear from my Dad and my Mom what a wonderful woman she was. In the beginning of my new spiritual path, my parents were always “curious” to say the least as to what “I was getting into.” I took much time and care in explaining it to them, my Mom was reluctant at first but then became very receptive but my Dad just kind of never said anything in the beginning.
Three-ish years into “practicing” I found out that oddly enough there was a few stories my Dad failed to mention to me about my Gramma. Then one afternoon when we were sitting down for brunch, he asked if he ever told me the story of the one time his Mom’s best friend read his tarot cards….”um no!?” He proceeded to tell me the story and how the prediction came true and how he refused to come home because he didn’t want them to know they were right! He then proceeded to tell me of my grandmother’s house “cleansing and blessing” rituals, and how there were times they had to sleep outside until her ritual was done and the house was ready. He said he always remembered she would throw a broom in the corner when she was done and then no one was allowed in for 24 hours.
My Dad is very careful when it comes to religion and talking about these things as he has a certain fear of taboo, but he has come around to support me and my beliefs, which I think some times remind him of his mother. These stories warm my heart because it is obvious to me where my natural intent to practice came from, a gift from the grandmother I never knew. Did I mention my Gramma’s name was “Hilda?” (yep, it’s the truth!)
This is the story behind the birth of Hilda’s House Juju.
During the birth of her house blessing and cleansing line she was definitely here with me in spirit…from basically dropping her favorite flower in my lap, to choosing which picture she wanted me to use of her (and there are only two in existence)…there were signs of her everywhere. I am so pleased with the scent of this line it is rich and warm yet has a hint of delicate flower…my Gramma’s favorite flower being the carnation I tried to match the color to that of a pink carnation in honor of the lady she was.
